Custom Road Trip Itineraries

My first big road trip! The summer after I graduated from college, my dog and I hit the road for a month and slept in the back of this truck every night.

There’s nothing like a road trip for leaving your regular day-to-day life in the rearview mirror and embarking on a new adventure. The freedom of the open road has inspired countless novelists, poets, songwriters, and roamers of all stripes, and I’m no stranger to its beckoning call. I’ve roadtripped across 49 of the 50 United States (I kept to planes, trains, helicopters, and ships on a family trip to Alaska!) and have explored tons of intriguing destinations. Along the way, I’ve learned how to plan and execute a successful, memorable journey. I’d love to share that experience with you.

If you’re considering taking a road trip in the United States but don’t know where to start, or you want to make the most of your vacation time and don’t want to spend it all planning where to go next, I’m here to help. A smooth road trip may sound easy to pull off, but it involves a LOT of details, many of which you may not think about until you’re already on your way.

In my writing work and my personal travels, I focus heavily on this nation’s public lands, particularly our national parks, and I’m a sucker for weird and quirky destinations. However, I can customize a trip to any preference. Whether you want an overlanding journey where you rarely see civilization, a tour of the nation’s top parks dotted with cool places to park your RV or pitch your tent, or a no-expense-spared trip of a lifetime featuring fine dining and luxury accommodations along your route, I can help turn your dreams into a trip you’ll talk about for years to come.

Check out these sample itineraries I’ve created for past clients to get a feel for the type of journey I can plan for you!

Sample One: Victor, Idaho, to Delaplane, Virginia

I initially created a westbound itinerary for this client as he traveled from Virginia to Wyoming, and he was so pleased with the outcome that he had me put together a second itinerary for his return trip home. He specified that he wanted to visit Bozeman, liked yoga and hiking, wanted to take some scenic roads, and looked forward to enjoying some good meals along the way. I created this itinerary using the dates, budget, and preferences he provided and was delighted to learn afterward that he thoroughly enjoyed his adventure.

Sample Two: Phoenix, Arizona, to Las Vegas, Nevada

This client wanted to give her partner a bucket-list desert road trip in a convertible, and she requested visits to the Grand Canyon, Roswell/Area 51, the Hoover Dam, and Old Las Vegas, not the Strip. She also noted that they wanted to enjoy good food and scotch along their journey and visit weird, off-the-wall attractions as they went. I had a lot of fun coming up with this itinerary and pointing this couple to some of my favorite quirky points of interest from my own travels!

Sample Three: Miami, Florida, to Los Angeles, California

Three women, traveling by RV, wanted to stay at a mix of RV parks and hotels on their cross-country adventure. They didn’t have a lot of time for attractions, but they provided me with a list of cities they wanted to visit and stay in along their route and noted that they wanted to spend a full day together at their destination before wrapping up their trip. They also specified that they wanted to eat great food, patronize Black-owned establishments, take in some historical sights, and enjoy beaches and scenic landscapes. Although their timeframe required a lot of long days on the road, I made sure they had fun things to do and tasty things to eat each day and a memorable, restful place to sleep each night.

As each itinerary is customized to the client, my rates reflect the custom nature of the research and work involved in creating individualized trip plans. However, I can work with your budget and help ensure you have a great trip that won’t break the bank.
